What are the advantages of the crossover SUV?

Conventional hauling vehicles like the pickup truck are designed to haul loads with a balanced feel. Sedans are designed to carry passengers safely with a low center of gravity equalizing the effect of a full passenger load. The attraction of the SUV is that it offers the opportunity to carry cargo and passengers as well, often in off-road conditions. However, the original designs of the SUV did not take into account the imbalance caused by height and load.

The original SUVs were top-heavy vehicles. Loading them with cargo only exacerbated the top-heavy issue. The increase in rollovers became an issue. To correct this problem, engineers came up with what is called the “crossover” design for the SUV. Crossover SUVs sit lower to the ground, like a sedan. This lowers the center of gravity.
