What an Illuminated Tire Pressure Icon is Telling You

Most recent model cars and trucks are equipped with an important safety device, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). At our service center at Gillman Chevrolet Buick GMC, customers sometimes call us about their concern that this light comes on and remains illuminated. That indicates both good and bad news.

The bad news is that the illuminated light is signaling that one of your tires has too low pressure, creating a safety hazard when driving. But the good news is that the system is doing its job, informing you about the importance of proper tire inflation.

Overinflated and underinflated tires not only hasten tire wear but greatly decrease optimal tire performance. When your tire pressure light remains illuminated, it's time to head to our car service center in order to check your tires' current air pressure level and then adjust it to the level recommended by your manufacturer's service guidebook.
