How to Jump Start the Battery of Another Car

If your car battery has died, there is a safe way to get a jump-start from another car. Follow the tips provided by Gillman Chevrolet Buick GMC to enjoy a safe and quick experience.

Have the car with the good battery move next to the front of the other car as close as possible. Turn off the engine, and open the hood of both cars. The jumper cables will be clearly marked with two black and two red clamps. One red clamp goes to the positive area on the good battery, and the other red clamp goes to the positive on the bad battery.

One black clamp goes to the negative on the good battery, then attach the other black clamp to a metal surface on the car with the dead battery. Start the car, let it run a few minutes, and then attempt to start the car with the dead battery.

If you get the car running, come to our dealership in San Benito, TX and we can perform tests on the battery to determine if it is going to hold a charge moving forward. If you need a new car battery, we carry those too.
